Katharine Barker

Katharine studied Textiles and Fashion Design at the Hornsey College of Art, London, graduating in 1977 with First Class Honours.

After undertaking post-graduate study in Finland, she began a career in the museums sector, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, where she joined the Textile Conservation Department. In 1987 she set up her own textile conservation practice in Warwickshire.

In 2006, Katharine returned to art school to study painting at the Warwickshire School of Arts. In 2009 she was elected an Associate of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artist and exhibited as part of “New Contemporaries 1” at the Bristol Gallery. She has had work included in the Leamington Spa, West Midlands Open in 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2015, becoming a member of the judging panel in 2017. Her work, “Continuum” won the People’s Prize in 2015.

In 2013, feeling the need to do something quite different, Katharine enrolled in a ceramics class. She has recently bought her own kiln and is finding her way with a new media
