Daddy Holding Me as a Toddler

My work is abstracted from what has inspired it - in this case old photos of me being held by my father as a baby and small child. I want to explore my memories and feelings of being with him and my relationship with him although he died when I was small. Painting from these photos are a source and are providing an opportunity to feel close to him. This is a new departure for me as I do not usually work from photos or from people. Generally I am a colourist and work from flowers with the paintings taking off in their own right through the process of painting and often becoming abstract with pattern evolving. However I have previously explored my own body through a series of work in which I worked directly from a mirror.
